CDP ( Contemplative Dance Practice ) w/ Kelly Hurlburt

  • Flux+Flow 200 Crestview Road Columbus, OH, 43202 United States (map)

Contemplative Dance Practice (CDP) is a practice that intertwines movement and meditation while exploring embodied awareness and expression. It was created in the 1970’s by Naropa University’s Barbara Dilley and is now practiced internationally. It is open to experienced and non-experienced movers and to all those seeking a space for examination and curiosity of self.

There are variations in the length and format of the structure but a CDP session will always have the time divided into these three parts:

A. Sitting meditation— focusing on being here, now. Sometimes guided, other time's simply left open (20 MINUTES)

B. Personal awareness practice—also referred to as personal warm up, or time attending to self in whatever way feels welcome. (20 MINUTES)

C. Open space
—time to sense ourselves in relation to others and the space, sometimes moving and sometimes witnessing the movers,  allowing yourself to enter or leave the space as often as you feel called. Anything is possible (40 MINUTES)

This simple three-part form creates an environment that allows us to be with what is present in the body, and to express ourselves through movement in a safe, open and inclusive space.
